SJS Theater Program
Theater Program overview
We take great pride in nurturing a creative and inspiring theater program for our students. Each spring, St. John’s School partners with the Raven Performing Arts Theater to bring a full-scale musical production to life. Open to all students from TK through 8th grade, our program provides a welcoming space for young performers to explore acting, singing, and stagecraft while developing confidence, teamwork, and a love for the arts.
Aligned with our mission to cultivate the whole child: academically, artistically, and spiritually - our theater program emphasizes growth through creativity, collaboration, and faith. Students of all experience levels are encouraged to discover their unique gifts, work together toward a shared vision, and celebrate the joy of storytelling. Through participation in the annual spring musical, our students not only build performance and communication skills but also deepen their appreciation for community, perseverance, and the beauty of creative expression inspired by God’s gifts.
SJS & Raven Leadership
The St. John’s School Theater Program is led in partnership with Raven Players Artistic Director Steven David Martin, whose experience, creativity, and passion for youth theater help guide our annual spring musical. Steven works closely with our students throughout the production process, from auditions and rehearsals through Tech Week and performances at the Raven Performing Arts Theater.
The program is supported by the SJS Spring Musical Committee, co-chaired by Meghan Magnasco and Beth Rhodes. Together with Steven, school leadership, and our dedicated parent committee leads and volunteers, the team coordinates the many elements that bring the production to life, including cast and parent communications, costumes, sets and props, publicity, fundraising, volunteer coordination, and show-week operations.
Our goal is to create a collaborative, organized, and memorable theater experience that gives St. John’s students the opportunity to build confidence, develop performance skills, and be part of a production supported by their school community.
