Student Life
In a survey of our students, their feelings of St. John the Baptist Catholic school were exemplified in their response to one question. 99% of our students strongly agreed/agreed with the statement that "My teachers treat me with respect."
We pride ourselves in providing the kids with an environment that is safe, caring, nurturing and rewarding. For all of us who work at St. John the Baptist Catholic School, we care for the children from deep within our core.
We also strive to have our students learn beyond the standard classroom setting. Here are some examples of that:
- Students are taught to give back to those less fortunate or in need in society. As a result, service projects, both class-wide and schoolwide, take place throughout the year. Examples include the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Pennies for Patients, Christmas Toy Drive, and Adopt-a-Family.
- A valuable component of the school's curriculum are the off-campus learning experiences which include: the 4th grade overnight visit to the Petaluma Adobe; the 5th grade week-long outdoor education at Westminster Woods; the 7th and 8th grade spring retreats, and the 8th grade 8-day trip to Washington DC (which includes a visit to Jamestown and Williamsburg, Virginia). These extracurricular activities offer students an opportunity to develop their personal skills and talents.
- A highlight of each school year is the spring musical production in which students in grades 3-8 audition and are cast in parts for the show. Students in grades K-2 are cast in a musical number that opens the show. The production runs live for two successive weekends at the local community theater, and continues to be an annual success.
