FOURTH GRADE OVERVIEW

Independent thinkers who have a positive mindset for learning and actively engage to understand structures and meaning to build awareness of God and their community. 

 

LANGUAGE ARTS

Fourth grade students will read selections chosen from various literary types to deepen and extend their vocabulary and reading comprehension. Writing is used to enhance an understanding of grammar usage and  sentence structure, as well as, using it as a valid and valued personal skill. Students will build a strong usage of speaking, listening, studying, thinking, and research skills. 

MATHEMATICS

Fourth grade students will learn concepts and skills for multiplication and division of whole numbers, the usage of subtraction and addition of multi-digit whole numbers, an understanding fractions and measurement concepts,and use problem solving skills. 

SCIENCE

Fourth grade students will learn about the skeletal and muscular system in the human body, earth materials, and standard and metric measurement.

social studies | history

Fourth grade students will have a narrative look at the history of California. This will take place by looking at the diversity ofCalifornia through its geography, the first Californians, exploration of California, the missions, the Gold Rush, and up to today. 

RELIGION

Fourth grade students will be led to a deeper understanding of our Catholic faith through our beliefs and traditions. They receive a balance between doctrine, Scripture, and the liturgical year. Our study begins Before Christ (BC)  with the Fall of Man and follows through In the Year of Our Lord (AD) ending with Our Mother, Mary.
