TK Kindergarten Program

St. John the Baptist Catholic School offers a two year, full day Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten program. The SJS TK and K program promotes age appropriate skill development to assist young children in achieving educational success and provides a strong foundation for the child’s continued academic and spiritual development.
The first year is Transitional Kindergarten (TK). A child must be four years old by September 1st prior to the current school year. For Kindergarten (K), a child must be five years old by September 1st of the current school year.
The TK and K program is a full day of school that begins at 8:00 am and ends at 2:30pm, Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, both TK and K enjoy early dismissal at 12:15 noon.
Extended Care for TK and K students is provided after school until 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
The TK school year concentrates on social, spiritual and emotional growth in a classroom environment, while also preparing the child for the academic journey of the following year. There will be lots of movement, music, fine motor skills, and developmental learning activities that focus on pre-reading, and early math concepts. The curriculum leads directly into, and prepares each child for, Kindergarten.
The K school year concentrates on a fun and loving environment in which the child can develop independence, self confidence, social skills, creativity and a love for learning. The academic curriculum includes Religion, Mathematics, Language Arts, Phonics, Reading, Handwriting, Spanish, Physical Education, Art, Science and Social Studies. The K program is a great academic experience, and by school year-end, children are well prepared for first grade.
